First Home Suite Hope Milton executive meeting

Last night we had our first Executive meeting of Home Suite Hope Milton. We worked through a grant application and 5 year plan to bring a transitional housing solution to Milton. We need to complete by January 24th so that MACCWT have the time to review the submission prior to their signature. We need to find a lease owner in Milton willing to supply a letter of intent with us to enter into a 5 year lease arrangement.

2011 will mark 7 billion global population

According to National Geographic magazine, 2011 will mark the global population exceeding 7 billion people, with close to a shameful 1 billion without enough food. As the population rises by another 2 billion in the next 40 years there will be a greater demand on food and increasing poverty.

Salvation Army Fundraising Goal exceeded

Well done residents of Milton for raising $205,000 to keep the Salvation Army food bank running. The Salvation Army had 280 families sign up for the service, representing a 32% increase from the year before.

Union Gas

Well done Union Gas on your 2010-11 annual Winter Warmth program, which offers emergency relief to low income families who face difficulties paying their natural gas bills. Reported in the Milton Champion (December 16). Through the program, customers can receive one time financial assistance up to $500 per household, a $50 increase from last year and this year the program is available year round. Last year Union Gas provided ore than $645,000 in emergency grant relief.

This is very significant offering hope to those families faced with the most desparate need. Contact www.haltonfamilyservices.org

Happy New Year

Happy New Year to all of my followers. I wish that 2011 lets us see a real transitional housing solution in Milton through Home Suite Hope Milton. I am one of the five people appointed to the Board. I am writing an article this weekend for the St Paul's Herald, a copy of which I will post to this blog.
