MACCWT signs OTF grant application

Stunning news this evening to learn that Milton Area Christian Churches Working Together has signed the grant application for Ontario Trillium Foundation for the Home Suite Hope Milton transitional housing project. This is a major milestone. Thank you everyone.

9th Annual Homelessness Marathon airs Wednesday on Brock University Radio, CFBU 103.7 FM.

9th Annual Homelessness Marathon airs Wednesday on Brock University Radio, CFBU 103.7 FM.

The largest discussion on homelessness and poverty in Canada will broadcast live from the streets of Montreal, and locations across Canada, beginning Wednesday, February 23rd, at sunset until sunrise on Thursday, February 24th.

The Homelessness Marathon serves up 14 hours of people-powered radio, providing an opportunity for homeless people and their allies to take to the airwaves. The broadcast will feature a nationwide discussion on homelessness and possible solutions.

Listeners are invited to call-in with their questions or comments

Committee hears poverty summit recommendations

Thursday's Milton Champion (February 17th), reported that "members of the Region's health and social service committee heard a number if recommendations to help Halton's most vulnerable". Anne Swarbick from Halton's Habitat for Humanity was one of the conference organisers and presented recommendations form the Summit on Poverty Reduction. The article reports the 5,300 households waiting for rent-geared-to-income housing. The video "Being Poor in Halton" was shown. The Halton council passed a motion to establish a poverty task force.

Ontario Trillium Foundation application

A group of 15 interested parties met last night to discuss the potential Ontario Trillium Foundation grant application through MACCWT. There were six members of the MACCWT Board in attendance together with four members of the Home Suite Hope Oakville organisation and members of the St Paul's transitional housing task force group who have put the draft grant aplication together. It was a lively and positive debate. The founding members of HSH-O were very impressed with the progress made and hopeful that there vision 8 years ago of a wider Halton transitional housing project may come to fruition in the near future.
